Visual and Performing Arts – Kindergarten – Twelfth Grade
The mission of the fine arts department of CCS is to give each student the ability to use their God given talents in a way that will give them a strong self image and an ability to work well with others. Starting with the Performing Arts program in the Elementary classes, and continuing with drama, choir and theater classes through Middle School and High School, the department teaches skills in a variety of areas.
The elementary classes spend time learning how to sing, how to use rhythm and toned instruments as well as how to express ideas and emotions with facial and body movement. Group activities teach the students how to function as a unit and how to obtain a common goal. The fourth and fifth grade classes make up the Elementary Choir and perform in the ACSI Choral Festival each spring.
The Middle School program is structured to teach the beginning techniques of drama and the basic knowledge of theater. The students also are exposed to choral singing in adjudicated events and choral festivals.
High School students are expected to learn more advanced acting techniques and theater history. Classes range from Beginning Theater to Advanced and there also is a High School Choir.
There are special performances throughout the year. The elementary classes present a Christmas program while the Middle School and High School choirs hold Christmas concerts. ACSI Choral Festivals are also held during the second semester.
The entire department is involved in the production of an all-school musical each year. Students from the ages of 4 to the graduating seniors work together to present a show of high quality and value. It is an event that is well attended by our entire community. Past shows have included The Music Man, The Wizard of Oz, Beauty and the Beast, and Suessical the Musical.
